Your initial visit with us is one of the most important appointments you’ll have. It’s not only our chance to get to know a bit about each other, we’ll also have the opportunity to take a look at your teeth and discuss any concerns you have about your smile. We want this visit to be informative, positive, and pleasant, and it helps if you know what to expect before you arrive!
Let’s take a closer look at what happens during your complimentary consultation and what comes next if you decide to move forward with orthodontic treatment.
Getting things started
No matter which of our three conveniently located offices you choose for your consultation, you’ll be greeted warmly when you enter! We’ll introduce you to a few members of our talented team and show you around to help you feel more comfortable with your surroundings. We’ll then move on to taking a few digital photographs and X-rays for our records before you meet Dr. Periago.
As she examines your teeth, gums, and mouth, Dr. Periago may also ask if you’ve had any problems with chewing, swallowing, or opening and closing your mouth. She uses the information from your medical and dental history, exam, and digital images to make your initial diagnosis. It also allows her to create a personalized treatment plan based on your unique smile and specific needs.
It’s important to us that you never feel like we’re rushing you through your appointments, especially the first one! You can expect your initial visit with us to last about an hour. This gives us plenty of time to perform an exam, discuss your diagnosis, and address any questions or concerns you may have at this point. You can also expect us to cover other topics, including:
- any oral issues you are experiencing
- if treatment is needed immediately or if waiting is recommended
- what treatment options are available to correct the problem
- an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total investment required for treatment
- any payment or financing options we have available to you

Investing in a healthier smile
Once we’ve gone over all your options and you’ve decided on a treatment plan with Dr. Periago, we’ll discuss the total investment needed for your new smile. Every case is different, so the total treatment costs will vary from person to person. You never need to worry about hidden treatment costs or unexpected fees here, however! Our team will take care to ensure that you understand exactly what to expect before the active phase of your treatment begins.
We never want finances to stand in the way of patients achieving a beautiful smile! In an effort to keep our orthodontic fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we’re able to offer the following financial arrangements to our patients.
If full payment is made at the onset of treatment, we will offer an overall fee discount
Down payments with monthly payments and no interest charged
Electronic Payment through your credit card or bank account
For your convenience, automatic monthly payments are available through your credit card or bank account. If you have dental insurance that covers orthodontic treatment, our team will be happy to help you to determine the coverage available. If you would like to assign your insurance benefit, we will be able to structure a payment plan for the balance. Ultimately any unpaid balance will be the patient’s responsibility to pay.
What comes next?
After you’ve decided on a treatment plan that works for your smile, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to start the active phase of treatment. Depending on the type of treatment you’ll be using, you can expect follow-up visits every 4-8 weeks or so. During these check-ups, we’ll assess your progress and Dr. Periago will check to be sure that your teeth are moving according to the treatment plan. She will also make any necessary adjustments if you’re wearing traditional braces.
These visits are an essential part of the treatment process, so it’s important that you don’t miss them. We do our best to schedule your appointments for a day and time that is convenient for you, but we also understand that there may be days when you’re running late or can’t make your appointment for some reason. If this occurs, please let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule your appointment for another day. This will help keep your treatment plan on track and get you to your new smile as quickly as possible!
